BVLGARI Announces The Opening Of Their First Canadian Flagship Boutique

Bulgari, the contemporary Italian jeweler and master of coloured gemstones, announces the opening of its first boutique in Canada, within Toronto's Yorkdale Mall.

Renowned for its distinctive and richly hued jewels and timepieces, which have adorned kings and queens, movie stars and more, Bulgari will carry the brand's full portfolio of products including jewelry, accessories, watches and fragrances. From Bulgari's iconic collections of Serpenti, DIVA, MVSA and Monete within jewelry, accessories and watches to one-of-a-kind high jewelry pieces, each piece represents the brand's undeniable craftsmanship and style.

The fact that Roman jeweler Bulgari has a strong glitterati following becomes clear upon seeing the de Young's new exhibition "The Art of Bulgari: La Dolce Vita & Beyond, 1950-1990."

On view through February, "The Art of Bulgari" includes more than 140 lustrous lapidary masterpieces necklaces, chokers, cuffs, bracelets, watches, rings, earrings, purses and more.

Organized by the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco in collaboration with Bulgari, the show again exemplifies-the museums' dedication to the decorative arts, seen in previous exhibits such as "Cartier and America," "Faberge, Tiffany, Lalique" and the recent "Royal Treasures from the Louvre.

THE HISTORY OF BVLGARI

The Bulgari's descent from an ancient family of Greek silversmiths whose activity began in a small village of Epirus, where Sotirio, the founder of the family, made precious objects in silver. In 1879 Sotirio emigrated to Italy and after a few months spent in Naples he finally moved to Rome. At the very beginning he sold his objects in front of the French Academy on the Pincio. Then a Greek merchant offered to let him display his objects in a corner of the window of his shop, placed at the beginning of Via Sistina. Sotirio was very successful; thanks to the original style of the ornaments he was selling.
