Institute plans to expand its operations in Gujarat.
By International Gemological Institute
Press Release: The International Gemological Institute (IGI), the world’s largest independent laboratory for testing and grading gemstones and fine jewelry and India’s only ISO/IEC 17025:2005 accredited laboratory, launched its state‐of‐the art facility at CG Road in Ahmedabad. This shall be IGI’s second diamond certifying facility in Gujarat, after the launch of the IGI state‐of‐the‐art laboratory in Surat in April 2010.
Gujarat is emerging as one of the key diamond markets in western India and therefore it is a strategic move for IGI to open Surat and now Ahmedabad, which will service Saurastra as well. With growing consumer awareness in quality and certification, steady growth for demand in jewelry and disposable incomes at hand, Ahmedabad is identified as the next potential market. It is a very important stage for IGI, after Surat, to build the confidence of consumers and educate them on importance of certification and provide certification facilities. IGI aims to come closer to diamond manufacturers and consumers alike, and share technical expertise of the diamond grading industry to educate and cultivate consumers and manufacturers purchasing or selling diamonds.
On the occasion of the launch, Tehmasp Printer, the managing director of IGI India said, “The awareness for quality and certification is rising amongst consumers, and therefore a globally recognized certification laboratory in India provides assurance and helps build consumer confidence. We believe Ahmedabad is emerging as one of the key diamond markets. IGI has enjoyed tremendous success with the launch of a diamond certifying laboratory in Surat last year. IGI mobile labs will be made available to our clients across Gujarat for certifying their jewelry."
A KnowYourDiamond seminar was conducted for customers on June 14 at Sherly Gems by Ramit Kapur, general manager of IGI India. IGI will conduct a Polish Diamond Grading course at its diamond certifying laboratory in Ahmedabad from June 20 through June 30.
