The international-jewelry brand Tiffany & Co has reopened its Collins street store after a 10-month-renovation.
The new store encompasses three levels totalling approximately 1,250 square metres of retail space.
According to managing director of Tiffany & Co Australia, Glen Schlehuber, “The store closed-temporarily to undertake major-redevelopment from October 2010. During this time we traded from a temporary store until the doors of the newly redeveloped store opened,” Schlehuber said.
The store has since reopened for business and its grand-opening is scheduled for August 18.
Schlehuber-referred to the change as necessary redevelopment, which was needed in order to build on previous successes. “We started from scratch, incorporating the existing ground floor space with the first-floor of the building and built a mezzanine in between, creating a three-level store,” Schlehuber said.
Tiffany originally-entered the Melbourne market in 1996 with its first store in Crown Casino. “In July 2001 we closed that [Crown Casino] store and opened our flagship store at 267 Collins Street so it was open for just over nine years before we closed again for redevelopment,” Schlehuber said.
The redeveloped store is said to incorporate elements of Tiffany’s Fifth Avenue store in New York. “Including carved glass and metal screens, the new store will have a white marble façade bathed in light, giving the store a dynamic presence on Collins Street,” Schlehuber added.

The new store will also contain a vaulted ceiling, stainless steel showcases as well as custom-furnishings created by Australian designers and manufacturers.
In addition, the store houses a new service centre for repairs, alterations and engraving. “We are very excited, this new-environment will provide us the opportunity to showcase our jewels in a space that compliments the quality of our products-and allows us to create a unique experience for customers,” Schlehuber said.
